The beginning of Bastar Dussehra begins with the first ritual of Patjatra on Hareli Amavasya.
Patjatra is the first important ritual of Bastar Dussehra, in which wooden log of sal tree brought from the forest of Machkot, a resident of Bilari village, for making chariot on the day of Hareli Amavasya. (Thurlu Khotla) is ritually worshiped in front of the lion gate of Danteshwari Mata. After that the work of chariot construction starts.

This year due to Adhik Maas (अधिक मास), the month of Sawan is of 57 days as a result of which the world famous Bastar Dussehra festival, which usually lasts for 75 days, will last for 107 days this year.
